IDOLS of TORMENT

Created by Black Magic Craft

A dark skirmish game by Black Magic Craft. If you missed the Kickstarter this pre-order store is the last chance to get your copy before we move on to production. IMPORTANT: You must select a "Late Pledge" package before selecting any items from the "Add-Ons" list. If you select "Late Pledge - Rulebook - PDF", you will only be able to include the "All 72 Idol Models - STL" and the "Game Pieces Set - STL" as add-ons. Physical add-ons can only be included with the "Late Pledge" packages that include physical products. This Pre-Order Store does not allow us to create these restrictions - we will be manually scanning all orders and contacting all late backers that have not followed this format with their orders.

March Update - What's Happening in the Echo?
about 1 year ago – Wed, Mar 22, 2023 at 05:11:45 PM

Since the release of the STLs back in January, our various social platforms have been filling up with pictures of painted Idols and pieces of terrain - it is clear that excitement is in the air. It has been a real pleasure watching the engagement amongst hobbyists and the shared anticipation for the forthcoming Idols of Torment rulebook.

...and the rulebook in PDF format is the next thing to come!

Needless to say, we are all highly anticipating having the finished product in our hands and collectively journeying into the Echo. That time is coming very soon, albeit a little later than we had originally planned. We do apologize for the delay and thank you all for your patience.

The delay is entirely the result of some final stages of work. The entire ruleset, extensive setting, and scenarios are all done - we are now making sure the final proofing and layout receives the quality and care we expect on a product that is so important to us. After all, this is complete passion project, so it is going to be hard to let it fly out into the world unless we are 100% happy that it meets our standards.

To help set a few things straight, we've put a few questions and answers together:

So what, did you run into some problems or something? Is this the beginning of a "troublesome" fulfillment where you will need more money?

Not at all! 75% of our products have been designed and tooled (all digital models have been completely fulfilled). Our manufacturers are a lined up, deposits have been made, and we have all the resources we need to complete production and fulfillment. We just need to finish layout and final proofing of the rulebook, and finish a few tracks and mixing/mastering of the soundtrack. We are 100% certain these products will make their way to you with the funds you've already pledged.

If the rules are done, why can't we have them?

Idols of Torment is more than a game - it is a story, a setting, and a carefully curated piece of art. We just can't let it go out in pieces, or as plain text, because it wouldn't be the same. You will appreciate it so much more once you dig into the setting and let the aesthetics of the rulebook take you on this dark journey with us.

So, what's this delay about?

Jeremy and JP are perfectionists... Simple as that. Further, we are an independent game design and publishing duo without the benefit of a full design studio at our backs. We have commissioned phenomenal editors, artists, writers, and more. But, at the end of the day, it is a 2-man operation pulling the final product together.  We are making a lot of progress and can't imagine the delay will extend beyond April 2023. The delay will have a slight cascade effect on the shipping of physical products as well - we will provide exact dates at a later time. However, it will not be a massive delay given the healthy buffer we have already included in our shipping timelines. You will all have your goods this coming summer (notwithstanding some crazy global incidents...)

Is there any way you guys can give us something to start playing?

Well, we thought about that, and we have a plan... When we release the rulebook in PDF, it will be released with one chapter missing: "The Hobby". This is a chapter with loads of information and pictures about crafting and painting. We have decided to put the layout of that chapter on hold and ensure the rest of the book is ready to go. Our digital fulfillment model allows us to issue "versions", so we can simply provide the updated rulebook - with the Hobby chapter in it - at a later date. The physical printed books will obviously be compete when you receive them.

We are so excited to see the rulebook, can you please give us a taste?

Absolutely. Check this out.

If you haven't already done so, make sure to join our Facebook and Discord groups. There's lots to see, and Jeremy and JP have been known to sprinkle around some little details about the rules...

Unit next time. Cheers,

Jeremy and JP
